Legal Setback: New York Judge Halts $4 Billion Sands Long Island Casino Project
The owner of the Mets, Steve Cohen, plans to construct an $8 billion Hard Rock casino tower in Queens.
Sands Long Island Casino Faces Legal Obstacle Following $4 billion setback by a New York judge
The $4 billion Sands casino project in Nassau County has been prevented from being leased by a judge of the New York Supreme Court.
Because authorities had to provide additional notice for public meetings and environmental reviews prior to the spring vote, Judge Sarika Kapoor denied the 99-year lease. Due to the judge's ruling, Nassau County planning officials will need to reopen hearings with national legislators, who will then need to recast their vote on the issue.
This was a huge victory for Hofstra University. The lawsuit was filed in April. The university campus would have been close by if the Sands casino had been constructed on the site of the Nassau Coliseum.
The news regarding Hofstra University was positive. The university is eager to participate in the planning process and determine how the community can use the Hub most effectively while preventing damage to the environment and other factors, according to President Susan Poser.
Owner of the Mets' $8 billion Hard Rock Casino Plan Is vying for a NYC License
The New York Mets' owner, Steve Cohen, declared his intention to construct an $8 billion Hard Rock casino complex while the team's lease fell through.
Cohen hopes it works out and intends to make improvements to the area.
Cohen intends to develop Metropolitan Park on the 50 acres of land surrounding the team's Citi Field in Queens, where the casino would be located. By creating a sizable sports, entertainment, and casino complex, he hopes to revitalize the neighborhood.
His plans have not yet materialized because there is fierce competition for one of the three casino licenses that are up for grabs. To see his project through to completion, he will need the backing of local politicians and citizens. There is only one license remaining for other parties, and Resorts World Casino and MGM Empire City Casino will receive two of them.
Not a single other person desires to construct a casino complex. Not even with Cohen. Other concepts include a Jay Z-backed casino in Times Square and a property in the Bronx situated on a golf course that Trump used to maintain. Watch to see who can win the final license and contribute the most to New York.
